CG 3 - Tuesday - Counting Us Worthy
This week’s cg session was called Counting Us Worthy.
We got the chance to explore our own lives through reflection and sharing. Sometimes in our lives, we don’t see the gifts and talents or blessings that God has granted us. More often than not, we are held back by the weaknesses we perceive in ourselves. We feel we are not worthy to serve Him or go back to Him or to share His love with others because of our flaws. We sometimes feel guilty and want to punish ourselves for our own weaknesses.
God has given us all different Gifts and Talents, and asks us all to be His instruments to do His will. He asks us to be the salt of the earth and light to the world, and not to hide our talents under a basket.
And so our reflection questions were:
What gifts and talents have we been blessed with?
What weaknesses do we have that are keeping us away from God?
And remember we promised everyone they’d get a small little something to take back with them? Well everyone got to take back a little affirmation card!
Sometimes we just don’t see the gifts or talents in ourselves because we are so blinded by our weaknesses – we need others to tell us what they see in us. So we ended the session by having everyone write their name on an affirmation card, and then we passed the cards round in a circle, writing little notes of affirmation for one another.
Joel led us in closing prayer, reflecting on the passage 1 Corinthians 12. At the end of the passage, it says:
"Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?"
We all have our own, different gifts and talents and blessings, but we are all alike in function -- all of us are called to share God's love with others, through our own gifts. What's more, God called us to Him, knowing full well our imperfections. Despite all this, He has still called us to spread His love. Even if we think it won’t work, what harm is there in offering up our imperfections to Him? We need only take the first step, and God will do the rest. That's why we sing:
Lord I offer my life to You, everything I've been through. Use it for Your glory.
Lord I offer my days to You, lifting my praise to You, as a pleasing sacrifice.
Lord I offer You my life.
Let’s continue to keep one another in our prayers, remembering one another’s struggles, and keep praying that God will give us the grace to look past our own weaknesses to see the beautiful gifts He has given each of us. Let’s pray that He will give us the opportunity to share His love with others, and that He will grant us the courage to do so, when the time comes. God already counts us worthy to serve Him, so why can’t we?
And of course, let us always remember that whatever we have shared remains in the circle :)
In His love,
ryan.
