week 9 -- Patrician Meeting
y0z people of ABENG!!
as dwi mentioned last week, we will be having a combined CG this week, on Tuesday, 13 March. And of course, we're combining for our long awaited Patrician Meeting!!!
Topic: God's Will vs Free Will
- if we supposedly have free will then why do things happen to us that we have no control over?
- is that God's Will? Does that mean that in some cases, some of our experiences are actually predestined? if so, then how does "free will" fit in?
- doesn't "free will" mean our ability to choose?
--> then come for the Patrician Meeting!!!
(actually, even if you haven't, you should come anyway haha)
a Patrician meeting is generally a structured discussion on any issue regarding the Catholic faith and usually features a speaker. It's basically a forum and a great way to discuss any questions you may have. However, to avoid digressing into mindless chaos, each meeting sticks to a particular topic. Ours is "God's Will vs Free Will."
and another point to note: sadly, it's only for Catholics . for more info, please refer to the link at the end of this email
many Catholics often have troubling questions or doubts, and all of us yearn for answers. and as good Catholics, we owe it to ourselves to go and search for these answers!!
Vital Information
Date: Tuesday, 13 March
Time: 7pm sharpppp
Venue: YIH function room 3
The Legion of Mary will be conducting the meeting for us, and we'll be combining with Arts
too because, mathematically, more people = more views.
And just to make it clear, cg will be cancelled this week, replaced by the Patrician meeting.
So come down ya? and do think about the topic carefully. come up with some questions to ask even! it'll help make our meeting a fruitful discussion.
So that's all for now!
in His love,
ryan.
-Remember, Lent is Fasting, Prayer and Charity-
Patrician meetings provide a forum for all Catholics to freely discuss issues concerning the Church and Christian living.
-
A Patrician meeting begins with the Patrician prayer. See Legion handbook pp. 270-271 or click here .
-
Then a lay speaker gives a short talk on a pre-selected topic, such as, "Does Purgatory exist?"
-
A general discussion follows, with everyone in the group contributing their bit of knowledge and opinion on the subject.
-
All break for 15 minutes for refreshments.
-
Then a religious speaker addresses the topic, after which general discussion resumes.
-
The two-hour meeting ends with the Apostles' Creed and a priest's blessing.
(Disclaimer: there may be slight variations to the structure of the meeting, due to time and money constraints. this pertains particularly to the part labelled "refreshments" hahahaha)
