CG 4 - Tuesday - Discipleship
"Christ has no body now but yours
no hands now but yours, no feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which Christ's compassion must look out on the world.
Yours are the feet which He is to go about doing good.
Yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now."
We are all called to be disciples of God by living a life filled with the Holy Spirit. To follow the commandments and to do God's will.
Our questions for sharing were:
1. Do you consider yourself to be a disciple of God?
2. In what way do you think you are or are not a disciple of God?
As the sharing progresses, we voiced out what we have not been doing as a disciple, but as we journeyed further, we realised that sometimes serving in itself is not enough to be a true disciple and not able to serve doesn't mean u have failed as a disciple of God. There are times when you can feel dissapointed as there will be many difficulties living God's Will. But we were reminded that the heavy crosses has already been lifted by Jesus and all the burdens or crosses in our lives are shared with Him and thus, we should not feel alone when faced with difficulties.
There's also the part where we discuss about sometimes we feel all our hardwork of preaching the Good News comes down to nothing. However, we should know that all we can do to outreach is offer and we can't force a person to grow closer to God. Everyone will have their own time to grow and learn about God, it's like the hymn "In His time, In His time..."
“You are the light of the world. A city
built on a hill cannot be hid. No one
after lighting a lamp puts it under the
bushel basket, but on the lampstand,
and it gives light to all in the house. In
the same way, let your light shine
before others, so that they may see
your good works and give glory to your
Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16
God Bless...Thanks to Alvin and Christine who makes this CG a success!!!
Thanks to everyone who was present for the wonderful sharing ;)

CG 4
Hopefully you guys are still surviving after week 3, ^^ and as you all know, we will just get busier and busier. But let us not forget our responsibilities as God's chosen people. As children of God, each of us have a special role which we ourselves must explore and fulfill. Having the gifts and talents given from above, we should not put them to waste or for self-benefit. Therefore, I invite all of you to come for a wonderful session of cg on DISCIPLESHIP this coming tuesday and wednesday, to reflect on what we have been doing and whether or not we have been living the true Christian way. Let us be able to share with others what we have gain and learn from others what they have to offer through the Holy Spirit.

CG3 -- Wednesday--
The CG on wednesday had the same theme as the tuesday's where we shared about the gift and talents which we are blessed with and our human short-comings that prevent our gifts and talents from being used. Although we had a long CG, the sharing was fruitful. Thanks for the sharings wed CG!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We first started out with a prayer followed by a short reflection session where we thought about the gifts and talents we possess and then the short-comings which we have that tie our talents down, not allowing them to be used.
After that, we shared on what we reflected upon. All of us had our own talents and areas which we had passion in. However, our short-comings prevent them from either being further developed or being used at all. As we shared, we also discovered that each of us have the similar short-comings. Therefore we can urge each other to develope our talents! Knowing full well how it feels like when these short-comings get in the way.
Our dear God has blessed us with talents and these talents can be used even for our own personal enjoyment! But if it is possible that it may help any community, it would be joyful to be able to utilize them for all to share! And more often than not, we have the inertia to push ourselves in developing our talents. Remember that once we step out and do it, everything else will flow. So do take the first step yeah? A talent not used is a gift not opened. Let's too give our God given gifts a try!
After that we had our affirmation session too. It was heartwarming to see everyone affirm each other. Sometimes we ourselves cannot recognise the talents we possess and need others to tell us. And if it affirms the talent that we already know we have, it will only push us further in developing it. So don't stop affirming one another yes? An affirmation goes a long way...
To conclude our session, we listened to the song "Why". The song was about the hanging of Jesus on the cross where a little girl who strode into town witnessed it and felt sorry for Jesus. Jesus then asked the Father why he was subjected to such pain and the Father replied that he had to die, for the sake of the little girl standing there, terrified and innocent. I shall type out the crux of what Dwi wrote...
The song depicts a chaotic scene which is somewhat similar to the situation we find ourselves in from time to time. Our burdens, past and present, our short-comings may have obscured our vision, taking away our ability to reason clearly and objectively. We build a wall around ourselves that separates us from our blessings. This wall can be our sense of pride; being afraid or a lack of confidence. If only we can look beyond this negativity and focus on our blessings, like the way Jesus in the song had looked upon the girl. The reason why he had to be on the cross was so clear and simple. It was Love. It is Love.
We should try not to envy other's talents but focus on developing our own and as mentioned in the scripture, not everyone is called to be a priest or a teacher. We have our own roles to play and part of it is determined by our blessings. Going further, exploring into how our short-comings may or might have affected our decisions will help us to understand ourselves better instead of just speaking about them superficially. Some of us may be facing similar problems and knowing this, we can encourage each other to overcome them. To summarise, the reason for our blessings is simply Love and to pass it on!
And with that we ended our CG session and went to fong seng to eat! Haha Thanks again wednesday CG for your sharing! See u next week!
With inspiration to develope talents further,
Dan Tan
P.S. Do try to look through the reading material given to you. It is to equip ourselves for the coming CAW to help others understand our faith better. And come for faith formation talk if you can! Just call me if you don't know how to go!

CG 3 - Tuesday - Counting Us Worthy
This week’s cg session was called Counting Us Worthy.
We got the chance to explore our own lives through reflection and sharing. Sometimes in our lives, we don’t see the gifts and talents or blessings that God has granted us. More often than not, we are held back by the weaknesses we perceive in ourselves. We feel we are not worthy to serve Him or go back to Him or to share His love with others because of our flaws. We sometimes feel guilty and want to punish ourselves for our own weaknesses.
God has given us all different Gifts and Talents, and asks us all to be His instruments to do His will. He asks us to be the salt of the earth and light to the world, and not to hide our talents under a basket.
And so our reflection questions were:
What gifts and talents have we been blessed with?
What weaknesses do we have that are keeping us away from God?
And remember we promised everyone they’d get a small little something to take back with them? Well everyone got to take back a little affirmation card!
Sometimes we just don’t see the gifts or talents in ourselves because we are so blinded by our weaknesses – we need others to tell us what they see in us. So we ended the session by having everyone write their name on an affirmation card, and then we passed the cards round in a circle, writing little notes of affirmation for one another.
Joel led us in closing prayer, reflecting on the passage 1 Corinthians 12. At the end of the passage, it says:
"Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?"
We all have our own, different gifts and talents and blessings, but we are all alike in function -- all of us are called to share God's love with others, through our own gifts. What's more, God called us to Him, knowing full well our imperfections. Despite all this, He has still called us to spread His love. Even if we think it won’t work, what harm is there in offering up our imperfections to Him? We need only take the first step, and God will do the rest. That's why we sing:
Lord I offer my life to You, everything I've been through. Use it for Your glory.
Lord I offer my days to You, lifting my praise to You, as a pleasing sacrifice.
Lord I offer You my life.
Let’s continue to keep one another in our prayers, remembering one another’s struggles, and keep praying that God will give us the grace to look past our own weaknesses to see the beautiful gifts He has given each of us. Let’s pray that He will give us the opportunity to share His love with others, and that He will grant us the courage to do so, when the time comes. God already counts us worthy to serve Him, so why can’t we?
And of course, let us always remember that whatever we have shared remains in the circle :)
In His love,
ryan.

CG2 - CCG Theology of the Body
For all those who couldn't make it for the CCG on wed this week or needs a refresher, here is a summary of what it was about. It was a very good session and very inspiring. Now i feel inspired to be a good husband. Haha.
We talked about how the union of a husband and wife through sex is seen as a sacred act that God has given us with reference to the Eucharist. During the Eucharistic celebration, we hear the phrase "this is my body, given up for you" and similarly during consumation, the husband and wife give their body freely to each other, with trust and respect for each other. Thus it is seen that there is a nuptial meaning to Jesus dying on the cross for us also when he says "This is my body given up for you" and it is like Jesus's marriage to us. This is the sanctity of sex as it links to the Eucharist. Jesus is also seen as the husband and the Church as the wife. As Jesus has come down from heaven to serve his bride by laying down his life for the Church, husbands have the duty too to look after and protect his wife to the point of laying down his life. Women are also called to be vessels of love to receive love from her husbands.
Next we touched on the human body being the expression of the spirit and the image of God in man. There is a divine link between the mystery of the Trinity with the communion of persons in marriage. During sex, a couple come together as one and the possiblity of caring another in the womb which makes 3 in 1. Like the trinity.
We also touched on sex being a gift and freely given with love to a spouse. When man has a bondage to sex (addiction), sex is no longer a gift of love but rather a gift for self satisfaction. This bondage or lust, is due to original sin rendering Adam and Eve to be no longer naked without shame when they ate the forbidden fruit in Eden. Lust can be devastating to us when we subject ourselves to pornography or over dependence on romance novels for emotional support. This is as when we get married and impose the ideals of the perfect sexual experience or the perfect emotional reliance from our previous encounters through pornography or romance novels, we treat our spouses more like objects for selfish gratification rather than mutual love.
Religious who practice celibacy are people who do not get married her on Earth to remain in solitude before God. They are people who anticipate the marriage in heaven.
Next we talked about the use of contraceptives. Sex is a declaration of God's love. A total self-giving love. When we use contraceptives, it is a lie of the body in not total self giving to each other as we are holding something back. Total self-giving is the rejection of nothing with each other. When we reject each other's fluids, it is also rejecting God the giver of life. The rhythm method is more acceptable as there is no violation of the sanctity of sex. The integrity of the act is respected. However it must be noted that the rhythm method should not be done for selfish reasons. Reasons such as "I would like less children so that I may go for more holidays". The rhythm method should be employed when couples feel that they are doing so so that they can provide better for the family or if the wife has an illness which would make pregnancy dangerous. In any case, the spouse should not be made replaceable by using contraceptives (sex as an act of only mutual satisfaction) or just for the sake of having a baby. Sex is an act of love!
To sum off, if man understands sex, it will bring us closer to God. A reason why the evil one attacks us in this area. And we as man are in no position to decide if contraceptives are to be used or not. In Eden is the tree of wisdom between good and evil. When God made Adam and told him not to eat it, God is telling man that he is not able to decide between good and evil.
And if you just want a super summary, Eros is made to transform to Agape!
This is a pretty long entry but I hope it gives you a better view of sexual love and its relation to God. Hope you are inspired too! For any other questions of sexual love, do approach any CGLs or better still tag it in the window below! See you for the next CG!
Yours truly,
Dan Tan

CG : Our Family and Community
Today's CG was generally a light-hearted fun one with many laughs (at people with aural-motor issues). We started off with an ice-breaker and carried on with sharing with each other how we spent our time these holidays. We shared about the various activities we all did with our friends and our families but the important part to note is that we are all part of a community, with our family or with our friends. And that in that community, we contribute towards it by sharing our life with other members in that community. Just by being part of an event, we contribute with our prescence or by sharing our experience with one another. In sharing, we either comfort each other with the knowledge that we are not alone with having troubles or we help one another by provided possible solutions to our problems. We also give the all important moral support! (in CG at least!) We can provide comfort and prayer to our brother and sisters in need. And God will do the rest!
After our sharing session we had a lot of announcements (many but important!) so do keep yourselves updated with the mail as a reminder or to get more details!
May the warm Peace of the Lord be with you!

Fun Fact: We had lots of chips and dips too. Actually just one dip... it was ranchy.. Yummy CG

Dear fellow abengs,
Every academic year, CSS dedicates a week to create awareness of our Catholic faith amongst the students on campus. We hope that by making ourselves visible, we can be a beacon for those who have been away from God for some time and also for those who have not come to know Him yet. This year, the Catholic Awareness Week will be held from the 5th to the 10th of February, targeting three major faculties which are Arts, Engineering and Science and the CAW exhibition will be carried out slightly differently: Instead of just having one day of exhibition at each faculty, it will be extended to three days, with some days overlapping; Engine will be taking Weds, Thurs and Friday. It has also been decided that the Rally will be shifted to Sat eve on the 10th instead of our usual Rally + Mass. Mass itself will be held on the 9th February.
To prepare everyone this event, the CAW committee has prepared a series of 3 faith formation sessions and a day of recollection. The topics for this year's CAW Faith Formation Talks are:
- Mary & the Saints
These talks will be held at Risen Christ Church (Toa Payoh), 10am - 12pm on 13th, 20th, and 27th Jan while the day of recollection will be on the 3rd of February.
NOTE: The rest of the CAW topics which are not dealt with by the CG materials or the FF talks will be covered in our Pamphlets. These pamphlets will be tailored specifically for CSS members so that they may read and enrich themselves before CAW. More details will be given soon!
IMPORTANT: CSS NEEDS YOU! ABENG NEEDS YOU! With three consecutive days of exhibition, we’ll need everyone’s help, support and cooperation. We need you to enrich and prepare yourselves by attending these FFM talks, we need you to have courage, courage through Christ, and we need your presence, soul, mind and body for the exhibition itself. There are other areas that need more manpower as well. As Daniel has mentioned in an earlier email, the CAW committee needs more manpower and ideas especially for the exhibition sub-committee. Since the exhibition boards will be made exclusively for the various faculties, they need your valuable input. So please step forward, speak up and answer the call. Lastly, all these efforts may amount to nothing without your prayers. We need your prayers.
Are your hearts on fire?
With LOVE,
Dwi
